Be Stingy

- September 11, 2018 -

Not with your money so much, but with your minutes.

A time tightwad.

Who's unwilling to spend yours on just about everything...work-related, at least.

And no, this is nothing new. In past emails, I've said:

"Slow down to speed up."

"Do less to achieve more."

"Complexity' is the enemy of execution."

"Remember the rule of one: one offer, one price, one ad, one video, one email a day, one call close...until it's proven."

Basically:

"Stop majoring in minors."

I know. It's easier said than done.

Easy to monitor how your time is spent for a while...and then go right back to your old ways.

Letting emails, texts, calls, [...]

Grant Cardone...Real or Rip-Off

- September 5, 2018 -

Grant Cardone.

Real estate mogul. Former drug addict, turned self-made multi/multi-millionaire.

Real deal or scam? Oh, he's real.

He's the guy who drives white-on-white Rolls Royces and Lambos.

The guy who travels in his own Gulfstream jet.

He's flashy, he's a showoff. He talks out of both sides of his mouth.

He shoots his "Grant Rant" YouTube videos from inside his private jets and exotic cars...while telling you that it's stupid to buy sh*t you don't need and can't afford.

More power to him. Anybody who's built an empire out of nothing but pure hard work and his street smarts has got my [...]

A Legend and Leader Leaves an Impact Behind

- September 4, 2018 -

I hope you had a terrific holiday weekend. Being that it's called "Labor" Day, I've typically used that day to get a lot done around the house.

I don't know if you're like me, but when I'm puttering...my mind kind of wanders.

And I was thinking about the recent and untimely passing of someone Cheryl and I followed in our early days in the network marketing space.

The days when I was straddling the fence between my dying mortgage business and what was then the Wild, Wild West of online marketing for the home-based business industry.

Mark Hoverson was a [...]

The Jet Lag Phenomenon

- August 27, 2018 -

Napa Valley is one of my favorite places to visit...because you know, in wine country it's 5 pm all day.

Just kidding, people!

One of the things that always gets to me traveling between the East and West coasts is jet lag.

I've found that it usually takes a good day to adjust.

And that traveling East to West messes less with my internal clock less than going West to East.

There's all kinds of CRAAZY "cures" (i.e., theories) claiming to trick your body into not feeling the effects of jet lag:

- wearing the Ostrich Pillow (Google it - I swear [...]

Stuck In First Gear, Spinnin' Those Wheels

- August 23, 2018 -

It was a blazing hot New Jersey day – and humid as hell.

One minute I was cruising down the Interstate from Philly to Cherry Hill (where I was living at the time) and the next minute, my car sounded like the engine was ready to blow up.

I was in my 20’s, a young, aggressive stock broker and had recently bought the car of my dreams – a BMW 328i.

I’m no car expert, but I knew that when the needle on the “RPM” meter shoots up to the top of the red zone, something is really wrong!

Fortunately, [...]

A Rebranding Flop...And One That Nails It

- August 22, 2018 -

Rebranding your company can be risky business.

Good news is it can be done...and in a bit, I'll share a very cool story of a colleague that pulled it off in spades.

But for every one rebrand success story, there are ten flops.

Case in point...the Comcast-Xfinity disaster.

Comcast had a bad reputation of high prices and abysmal customer service and one day someone came up with the idea...

...to just rebrand with a slick new name in hopes that everyone would come down with a serious case of amnesia and forget how much they hated Comcast.

It was an attempt to [...]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

- August 21, 2018 -

She was an icon.

A legend.

She was the Queen of Soul.

She was Aretha Franklin.

Last week on the 41st anniversary of Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll's death, Aretha Franklin died.

And on the 70th anniversary of Babe Ruth, the King of Swing's passing.

All royalty in their own right.

Do you know the story behind her biggest hit R-E-S-P-E-C-T?

Otis Redding actually wrote and recorded it first...or at least his version.

But it was Franklin who flipped it on it's head and added the now famous cliche "Sock it to me, sock it to me."

In short, Aretha had TCB.

...taken care [...]
4,000 Miles to Freedom

- August 15, 2018 -

I just finished the book The Long Walk: The True Story of a Trek to Freedom.

Fascinating read!

It's the gripping account of a Polish officer's torture and imprisonment in 1940 by the Soviets, his escape (along with six other inmates) from a 25-year forced-labor sentence in a Siberian Gulag (prison camp) and...

Their year-long 4,000 mile trek on foot across Mongolia in sub-zero temps, across the scorching Gobi desert, through Tibet, and finally over the Himalayan mountains to India where they're rescued.

The half-staved but determined motley crew started out with no supplies except for a knife, an axe, [...]

Chest Pain Hits...Now What?

- August 9, 2018 -

Suddenly, you break out in a cold sweat.

You feel dizzy and short of breath.

Nausea hits fast.

Pain shoots down your arm.

Chest pain is real.

Something's seriously wrong.

And as much as you don't wanna believe it?

You know, deep down, you're having a heart attack.

So whaddya do?

You call 9-1-1.

Right?

Because admit it (especially us men)...even though you avoid doctors' offices at all costs, you're not going to say:

"Geez, I probably ought to get this checked out or I might die...

But I've got a hell of a busy day.

Then I've got my mother-in-law's birthday dinner tomorrow - and I promised I'd get [...]

The Only Guarantee Your Customers Want

- August 8, 2018 -

You're either a business owner or interested in becoming one...or you wouldn't be reading my daily rants and confessions.

That makes us two peas in a pod.

We like to call our own shots.

Don't like punching somebody else's time clock even if it means working less.

We like control. Anything less feels like operating from a place of weakness.

We also want to be able to offer a guarantee for our services and products.

And there's the rub.

...What if Mr. Customer didn't read the contract terms in entirety? And then wants to withhold payment? Grrr...

...What if Mr. Customer didn't use your [...]
