Steady-Eddie or Holy Mess

The nutritional supplement industry is a lucrative space.

Tell a woman that a little black pill taken twice a day will erase wrinkles and make her look a decade younger.

Throw in a plethora (trying to expand my vocabulary beyond Pittsburghese 'Yinz goin' dahntahn?') of "Before and After" photos.

Add a re-targeting pixel on the online ad that caught her eye and have it follow her around the Internet.

...and I guarantee there's no talking her out of buying a case of the stuff.

And it won't be long before her mindset morphs to "Well, if ONE pill will turn the clock back 10 years, I better take TWO with every meal 'cause my 30-year reunion is this summer and I'm not going if I don't look good!"

Guys, we're not immune either Lol. 'Fess up...you've seen the ads for testosterone.

Become a lean, mean, procreating machine.

(That is if you don't die from the increased risks of stroke, heart attack or prostate cancer.)

I'm no doctor but it doesn't take one to know that...

Unregulated.

Uncontrolled.

Unmonitored.

...use of supplements comes with a plethora (sorry, can't help it) of warnings.

So does uncontrolled business growth.

When we talk with companies interested in our CyberFunnels sales and marketing solution, one of the first questions we ask is this:

How much new business can you handle with the bandwidth you currently have?

20%? 30%?

Or will you need to hire and train another crew to install pools? Renovate kitchens? Fulfill on custom painting jobs?

Will you need to contract with another distributor?

Is your service department at capacity to handle new customers who will need regular servicing?

If growth is the goal...then organized, steady, controlled growth is the holy grail of the business owner.

More isn't always better.

(Hence the riff on nutritional supplements.)

Two biggest dangers of uncontrolled growth...

1. Chaos in the infrastructure

I'm talking about the day-to-day operations.

Case Study: When Cheryl and I were basically running the operations of Barron Marketing ourselves and selling time for dollars in the early days.

It got to the point where we were so busy that another order for 20 hours of Infusionsoft strategy/implementation would come in and yeah, the income was terrific...but it meant Cheryl was putting in 17 hour days at a minimum to make sure everyone was taken care of.

Frayed nerves, tears (can't handle it when she cries) weren't worth doubling and tripling profits in year two and three of hanging out our shingle.

All because of uncontrolled growth.

2. Loss of reputation

When people give you their money, it comes with expectations.

Put them off with lame excuses to cover your butt...miss deadlines...cut corners...make mistakes.

And you'll be burned at the stake.

Hard to come back from that.

You can try...or you can just let us be your Steady-Eddie of growth.
