Stuck In First Gear, Spinnin' Those Wheels

- August 23, 2018 -

It was a blazing hot New Jersey day – and humid as hell.

One minute I was cruising down the Interstate from Philly to Cherry Hill (where I was living at the time) and the next minute, my car sounded like the engine was ready to blow up.

I was in my 20’s, a young, aggressive stock broker and had recently bought the car of my dreams – a BMW 328i.

I’m no car expert, but I knew that when the needle on the “RPM” meter shoots up to the top of the red zone, something is really wrong!

Fortunately, [...]

Drinking From A Fire Hose

- August 13, 2018 -

You know the feeling.

When there's so much information coming at you that you can't possibly process it all.

Personally, I am of the opinion that technology is evil.

There are times I want to literally want to bash my computer against the wall.

Last week, the office was without Internet for three days.

Not a happy camper.

When we first got started with Infusionsoft, we gulped the "Automation Is Magic" Kool-aid down hard.

And the more we studied and learned, it literally felt like drinking from a fire hose.

...Too much to understand.

...Too many if this, then that scenarios.

...Too many moving parts.

...Too many [...]

OCD Has Its Benefits

- April 13, 2018 -

It's 79 degrees and sunny in Pittsburgh.

Hallelujah, winter is going, going...almost gone! For those of us who are nuts enough to live anywhere but the west coast, it's been a freaking long winter.

Actually I really do like the change of seasons - but enough freezing slop is quite enough for one year 🙂

And when the spring hits, it's time for weekend car detailing.

I'm kinda OCD about my cars. Ok, maybe more than kinda OCD. Lol

Even during the winter, it's rare that they don't get washed and cleaned out at least every two weeks.

The rest of the [...]

Stop Wimping Out

- April 2, 2018 -

You've witnessed (or been part of) this scene before...

Mom or dad is at the mall or the grocery store with Johnny in tow... and Johnny starts acting up. He wants something and has been told "No."

He tries again. "No." Again..."Sorry, no."

So Johnny throws a fit to try and wear his parent down. He's smart...and has learned the art of manipulation at a young age.

Most of the time, mom or dad are able to nip the whole thing in the bud...Johnny knows it's futile to press their luck and life goes on.

But it's those times when mom [...]

The Taxman Cometh

- March 27, 2018 -

It's "that" time of year again!

April 15th is about two weeks away...every entrepreneur's favorite day of the year lol

And for a guy who had to take Accounting 101 three times to pass, filing taxes are about as fun as a poison ivy rash!

And that's what I have Frank, my CPA for. He's been doing my taxes for 25 years.

So when the news last December was all about either Bitcoin or the new Tax Bill, I did two things:

1) Called Frank ranting. Frank listened (most likely he just put the phone down to save his eardrums) and [...]

If - Then - Do

- March 16, 2018 -

So...

A new small business was opening, and one of the owner's friends arranged for flowers to be sent to mark the occasion and wish the owner luck.

The flowers arrived at the new site right on time, and the business owner read the accompanying card...only to find that it said, "Rest in Peace."

The business owner decided to call his friend and told him what the card read.

The friend was pissed off and called the florist to give them a piece of his mind.

After he had told the florist the details and how angry he was, the florist [...]

[In My Best John Wayne] We’re Burnin’ Daylight

- March 6, 2018 -

If I ever lose my day job, maybe I could make a living doing impersonations.

Can't beat the Duke...

"Whoa, take 'er easy there, Pilgrim."

"Sorry don't get it done, Dude."

"Friend, you better get another line of work; this one sure don't fit your pistol."

And I do a mean Scarface...remember these?

"Who put this thing together? Me, that’s who! Who do I trust? Me!" and...

"You wanna waste my time? Okay. I call my lawyer. He’s the best lawyer in Miami. He’s such a good lawyer, that by tomorrow morning, you gonna be working in Alaska. So dress warm."

Occasionally I'd get [...]

Choose Your Own Adventure

- March 5, 2018 -

This email is a follow up to Thursday's. So if you didn't read that email (Subject line was "Swearing off cruises") - please dig it up and go through it first...

If you think about it, reality tv is a form of the "choose your own adventure" genre where the characters are more in control of their fate than the producers.

While I'd love to veer off and take pot shots at most of them (you already know I can't stand Dancing With the Stars)...I'll restrain myself...this time LOL

But I have to admit...I watched American Idol.

Probably because it [...]

Swearing Off Cruises

- March 1, 2018 -

Although I've traveled a lot, I've never been on a cruise...and don't ever plan to go on a cruise.

Before I have a mutiny on my hands, a lot of people love cruises and I get that there are all types of cruises...

Some are really high-end where everything is included, unlimited alcohol, bigger rooms, smaller ships, and decent food.

Then there are cheaper versions where everything is a little less luxurious.

They've just never appealed to me and my contrarian nature lol

+ Can't handle listening to Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" for hours on end.

+ Not a [...]

Lucy and the "Chicken" Factory

- February 6, 2018 -

I have to laugh whenever I'm reminded of this story...

When Cheryl and I met decades ago, she was living in Elizabethtown (E-town), PA. She was a teacher but like most teachers...needed to supplement her income during the summer with part-time work.

She tried to get a job packing candy in the Mars plant...but found out there was a waiting list LOL

So plan "B" is was...working in a chicken factory!

Her job was to stand at a certain spot on one side of a conveyor belt...and as the chicks arrived in front of her, quickly scoop one up and [...]
