We Took The Bait

Launching an online business is light years from where it was a decade ago...thanks to technology.

The current recipe du jour goes something like this:

+ Start with a spanking new fancy computer.

+ Mix in Infusionsoft.

+ Toss in a handful of LeadPages.

+ Add a dash of ScheduleOnce for appointments.

+ And a splash of Stripe to take money.

And by golly, you're a funnel expert! You've now got a 24-7 cash machine working while you sleep, right?

Well, herein lies the rub...

Technology only greases the wheels of an already existing sales process.

Yep...that's the dirty little secret that nobody tells you when you start a business.

Technology doesn't solve the most basic business problem.

And that's sales...the single most important and fundamental aspect of being in business.

Let's be honest, people. We're all entrepreneurs running as hard and as fast as we can.

You're no slacker.

But to make it in this gig...you really only have three options:

  1. Get better at sales.
  2. Change the way you think about sales.
  3. Go out of business.

If you've been following me long enough, you know that quitting is NOT an option so we can just rule out #3.

Look, I love sales - but I suck at technology.

There are days I just want to throw my computer against the wall. I can't type worth a darn, and it takes me 10x as long to learn to use a new app than most people.

So if selling makes you cringe like anything tech-related does me...I feel your pain!

See, we've all been conditioned over the years to hate sales.

I'll prove it.

When I say "salesman" what do you see flash in your mind's eye?

Exactly...that guy with a bad toupee, a gold pinkie ring, and a cheesy line.

It's no wonder most people hate sales.

So some savvy marketer coined the phrase "marketing automation" as bait...

...to lure people who are afraid of making sales into believing that you can automate the sales process entirely.

Don't get me wrong...with low-end products, you can absolutely make a killing through an automated funnel.

We have clients who run an ecommerce store selling nothing above $150 and they are slaying the beast!

But the reality is that many of us sell high-ticket products and services or coaching and consulting...and to close the deal requires human to human talking.

Correctamundo. And we're back to "sales" again lol

That's why when someone comes to me with a great idea that they're sure will make them a quick millionaire and they start to talk about building out a $30k funnel for them...

The very first thing I tell them is to "go sell it first."

In other words, if you can't break down your idea into a simple offer so compelling that you can get people to hand over their credit card to you without a fancy funnel, well...than it's not that great of an idea.

Sorry, just being real.

Subtly isn't my strong suit...but selling can be.

I'm going to flip selling on its heels and show you a simple approach to selling without having to sell.
