The Taxman Cometh

- March 27, 2018 -

It's "that" time of year again!

April 15th is about two weeks away...every entrepreneur's favorite day of the year lol

And for a guy who had to take Accounting 101 three times to pass, filing taxes are about as fun as a poison ivy rash!

And that's what I have Frank, my CPA for. He's been doing my taxes for 25 years.

So when the news last December was all about either Bitcoin or the new Tax Bill, I did two things:

1) Called Frank ranting. Frank listened (most likely he just put the phone down to save his eardrums) and after a few minutes calmly told me what he always says when the government gets under my skin:

"Art, buddy...chill out. You just make the money - I'll make sure everything gets documented for Uncle Sam properly."

2) I invested in Bitcoin. Much more fun 🙂

And it reinforced why I don't waste time on stuff I can't control...

...death

...taxes

...the weather

And government? Don't even get me started.

Watching the presidential and tax bill debates are like watching a train wreck...you know it's going to get real ugly but you just can't look away.

Like reality tv trash...and you all know what I think about crapola like The Bachelor lol

But seriously, knowing what's going on and how the Tax Bill will affect 2018 is also a double-edged sword...

I need to at least have a basic understanding of the bill's details to evaluate if/how much of an impact it might have on my business...and if I should change something in my business.

But it can be a complete waste of time since I have absolutely NO control over the bill itself:

+ I can't send in my suggestions for a re-write.

+ I can't chat with my senator with the hopes of influencing him.

+ And I can't choose to ignore whatever I don't like once it's signed.

Focus on what you can control.

While you can't control what others say about you (and the contrarian in me really doesn't care) - you can control what you put out.

Your paid advertising. Your blog posts. Your direct mail. Your emails.

And in my opinion, email is the fastest and easiest way to build a strong following of prospects and customers.

Email is the most basic building block of your company...

+ Your voice.

+ Your views.

+ Your experience.

+ Your personality.

The only other way to connect with someone on this level is via the phone...and while this is my comfort zone, it's not scalable.

You want to create a one-to-many way of communicating...and email is the ticket.

Without email you simply are not able to get across to your entire list who you are, what you have to offer, and why someone should even give a rip.

It always amazes me how many entrepreneurs will drop tens of thousands of dollars on traffic, funnels, courses, consultants, seminars, you name it...

...to build that list and then ignore it, only giving it a nod and a glance by sending out an obligatory generic (ie. boring) broadcast one a month or more.

Focus on your list...the lifeblood of your business.

Without it your business will grow cold, get old, wither up and die.

What used to be fresh and healthy fruit with promise to become a fine vintage if cared for and cultivated...is now a dried up, sour grape on a vine.

Want a way to get your list to re-engage with you organically but with all the time-saving benefits of automation?

Our Engagement Maximizer does just that.

Make today a good one!
