The Niche That Will Suck You In, Use You, and Spit You Out

/By: bmsteam

When we first entered the Internet marketing arena, we were so wet behind the ears that it's almost embarrassing what we didn’t know.

And we were prime bait for the "make money online" carrot dangled in front of us.
And boy did we swallow it...hook, line, and sinker.

For 5 years we gave it our all (literally wiped out our savings accounts.) We trusted our "mentors" while they basically exploited our ignorance.

When we finally saw the light, we vowed we'd commit ourselves to helping other regular guys like ourselves realize the error of their ways and bring them over from the dark side.

Joking aside...here are the problems with selling "get rich" and "make money" type niches:

1. THEY OFFER NO INTRINSIC VALUE

They're basically nothing more than glorified chain letters.

2. THEY FEED A GAMBLING ADDICTION

Most people will never sell enough to actually make a living. In fact, you'll be brainwashed to buy every shiny object that comes your way instead of mastering one skill, creating your own product or service, and positioning yourself as an authority.

3. THEY'RE NOTHING BUT A KNOCK-OFF

You'll never develop your own USP because you're hawking a carbon copy of of other people's products.  Remember the days of replicated websites?  Google despises them, people don't trust them, and you have absolutely no control over them.

4. THEY FORCE YOU TO LIE

You're put into a damned-if-you-do and damned-if-you-don't situation.  You haven't succeeded, but you're taught to stand in front of a someone else's Ferrari FF to give the impression... essentially lying... that you're living the lifestyle of the rich and famous.

Until you've succeeded, you haven't earned the right to teach some how to do the same.

MY ADVICE TO YOU

Go cold turkey and abandon the "get rich" niche entirely.

Sit down, put pen to paper and list what your skills are and what you know.

Stuck? Include ALL...

  • Magazines and newsletters that you currently subscribe to and enjoy reading
  • Jobs you've held since you were old enough to shovel snow
  • Groups you've belonged to...Boy Scouts, Wine of the Month Club, Church Youth Group, Bank Board of Directors, Barry Manilow Fan Club (all right, that's going a little too far)
  • Hobbies you're passionate about
  • Life experiences like earning your MBA, spending the summer as a missionary to Australia, studying abroad for a semester in college, authoring your first book
  • Topics that you own more than 5 books about (between Cheryl and me we probably own 65 cookbooks)

Those that do best at online marketing are exceptionally good at what they specialize in AND are knowledgeable and up-to-date on Internet marketing strategies including. The know how to put up websites, edit videos, and write compelling copy.

If you've spent years trying to make a go of marketing online and are frustrated with not getting the results you expected, do what I just told you to do.

I guarantee you'll find your niche - then drill down to find what people are buying. Look in Amazon Best Sellers, Paypal Shops, Lulu.com, Pulse.Ebay.com).

Create your own informational product to sell online or promote products as an affiliate - products that you can promote with authority.

Seize the day!
