If you’ve ever been pitched the “Anybody can do this” line while being sold the next shiny object…
Put away your checkbook.
I don’t buy into the “anybody can do anything” theory.
At least not to a level that's gonna bring the same results the people touting its praises are getting.
This weekend, I found out about the death of one of the founders of a company (which shall remain nameless) that Cheryl and I were a part of years ago.
Really great guy. His partner, the other co-founder...not so much.
And the company was an MLM.
I cannot (and won't) throw all multi-level opportunities into the same garbage disposal...but it was a ripoff.
The pitch was "Anybody can sell this! Anybody can build a downline fast."
And we took the bait. Hook, line, and sinker.
Thousands of good people lost millions of dollars.
Most, not unlike myself, were coming off some sort of life or career shakeup and were vulnerable to the "dream" pitch.
This is why I harp about:
...focusing on the one thing that will make the most impact in your business.
...proving concepts before throwing money into new products/services.
...BEING UNFORGETTABLE.
The last thing you want is for your competitors to reverse engineer what you're doing and ripoff what you offer.
And you do that by being unforgettable.
I’m more a fan of action movies (hey, I’m a guy) but you’ve got to admit that Meryl Streep is one of the most talented and respected actresses of all time.
She doesn’t just play the part of iconic women like Julia Child (in Julie and Julia) and Margaret Thatcher (in The Iron Lady)…she becomes them.
Her gestures, facial expressions, vocal inflections and accents, the way she carries herself.
She’s seemingly able to get inside the head of the characters she plays and literally embodies them.
It’s difficult to separate the character from the actor.
To date, she’s been nominated for 21 Oscars and won 3. The most nominated actor in the history of the Academy Awards.
Can you crawl inside your prospects’ minds that way?
Can you become so absorbed with your customers that you become one with them?
Can you talk to your website visitors in a way that they truly believe you can feel their pain?
Take the time to figure out (actually write it down) what makes your business model unique…the way you solve your prospects’ pain like none of your competitors do.
And then take all those special nuances that make up your USP and embody them in every product and service that you offer...starting with your core offer.
Put your personal stamp on every marketing piece you put out…
...every email.
...every social media update.
...every video.
So that NO ONE will be able to follow your bread crumbs and knock you off.
