Shock and Awe...Big Hit or Big Fail?

Last week a box was delivered to my office.

A big box.

Larger than a case of wine but smaller than a golf bag. Meh, not super interested at this point. Lol

And I noticed that Cheryl's name was on it. So...nice guy that I am and just because I was in an ornery mood, the big box was handed back to the FedEx guys with a new delivery address 🙂

Wasn't long before I got "the" phone call: "This huge box was just delivered to us. Is it something you ordered? I have no idea who the sender is!"

She opened the box: "It's this ginormous piece of glass that according to them is artwork. Looks like a big maze with our logo in the middle. Now we have to get rid of this big old box - and what do we do with this thing? I don't want it. Do you?"

Shock and Awe Board

The Shock and Awe Board is about 4.4 ft high.

Inside the box was a brochure letting us know that they'd "stalked our agency a little bit and grabbed our logo" and why the artwork looked like a maze...

Along with a personalized letter...

A day or so after it was delivered, we received a followup email...

Shock and Awe Email

What did SharpSpring's Shock and Awe gift do well?

+ The BIG box definitely got our attention.

+ The letter and followup email were personalized with first name and company name merged into the copy.

+ The followup email was scheduled strategically to take in account the extended travel itinerary 🙂

+ The letter was hand-signed...no fakery there.

+ Kudos in using a p.s. in the letter and pointing out they knew we already use Infusionsoft and their intent was NOT to try to get us to switch.

+ Super creative, puns and all.

Where did the Shock and Awe fall flat?

+ It was like opening the BIGGEST present on Christmas only to now figure out what to do with something you know you'll never use...and you have to get rid of the BIG box somehow.

+ What you didn't see in the email shot was that there was no Unsubscribe link. Instead there was a bit of text under the signature that read: If you no longer want to receive emails about SharpSpring, just reply to this email and we'll take you off the list. ** BUMMER and deal killer right there.

+ The pace felt "awkward" with the invite to "do lunch" virtually at a restaurant of our choice (and bring our whole team) seeming way premature.

I mean...was there going to be a proposal to marriage coming via a text message next?

So was the elaborate disruption effective? Memorable, yes. A pleasurable experience leaving us excited to pursue a relationship? No.

Hopefully they have a better ROI with other scraped leads.

But it was an interesting diversion, and we hope you enjoyed reliving the disruption vicariously!

To continue a more reasonably paced business relationship with us, schedule a free consult at a time that works for you...no lunch invitation yet.

P.S. Since we haven't responded to SharpSpring's overtures, I'm wondering how they're going to break up with us.
