Never let 'em see you sweat...
Remember those oldie but goodie Dry Idea commercials?
Yeah, this will date some of us LOL
In 1984, the Gillette Company launched a new series of TV commercials for its Dry Idea antiperspirants that introduced what eventually became one of the most famous ad slogans of all time.
The TV commercials featured celebrities who each mentioned three “never's” for their profession — ending with “never let them see you sweat.”
The commercials were memorable not only for their tagline, but also because they were witty and well-performed by the celebrities.
Here's one...
Lauren Hutton (Actress): There are three never's to getting older in Hollywood. Never audition first thing in the morning. Never try to play a character half your age. And, even if your leading man is prettier than you are, never, never let ‘em see you sweat.
Now, think...can you remember your last "never let 'em see you sweat" experience?
I'm trying really hard to forget mine...
We were getting ready to launch our CyberFunnels™ service and the team asked me to be the voice of the sales videos.
I thought "Fine. I mean, how hard can it be? I talk all day. Sure, bring it on!"
I think all Cheryl cared about was that I'd have to wear a suit 🙂
I printed out pages...and pages...and more pages of script.
And I'm seeing words I'd never heard of before. Who the h*ll talks like this?
Oh, it got worse...
I got to the studio and was told that the script was on a teleprompter and all I had to do was just say what I saw as it came up.
Take one...I messed up on a big word.
Take two...I was told I was grimacing.
Take three...Evidently now I'm sighing and squirming.
Take four...Art, you're getting a little loud and maybe slow down a little?
Take five...Do you need a break, Art? No, thanks. I need a drink!
I'm pitting out. Thinking about all the calls I'm missing...the phone constantly vibrating in my pocket.
After five freaking hours, Cheryl and our partner in this venture who'd both been watching the whole debacle unfold on Skype (and evidently laughing) said it was ok...I'd tried my best.
I was fired LOL
We brought in a professional actor who in one take, nailed it.
And because the video component in the service is so darn powerful, we had clients asking if the videos could be a separate service.
And so PerfectPitch™ Sales Videos were born.
For two reasons:
1) It solved a major pain point for businesses who knew they needed video in their sales process but couldn't nail the scripting or production quality.
2) No one else was doing what we were and getting the results we were.
+ Persuasive copywriting that connects with your prospect emotionally is done for you.
+ The copy focuses specifically on your audience's needs - no parroting the stuff your competitors are saying.
+ Internal Decision Triggers help your prospects decide for themselves that you are the right answer without you having to convince them.
+ Multiple videos are produced and used strategically throughout the sales process to piece together one cohesive story about your business.
+ High-quality videos produced using professional talent (or the business owner) and shot in studio by a film, audio and lighting crew.
No need to end up a sweaty mess like me!
