Given the fact that I'm a Libra and a middle child, it's no surprise that I've been a broker all my adult life.
Stock broker. Mortgage broker. Property investment broker.
Being stuck between two sisters growing up, keeping the peace became a full-time job LOL
Negotiating and coming up with a fair outcome for two parties is my sweet spot.
So the quagmire I was dealing with yesterday really got me going.
Here's what happened...
I had a buyer for a property who wanted to sign the contract right away. I mean he was chomping at the bit.
So you're probably asking, "What's the problem here, Art?"
The twist was that I was in the process of liquidating the business partnership between the selling party...the two guys who owned the property on the table.
...and they don't get along. Not even a little. Which is why they are dissolving their relationship.
I've been playing referee between them for almost two years and let me tell you, it's been a "joy"...if you get my drift.
But it gets more convoluted!
The sellers had a contingency...
There was one remaining property in their management company that also had to be sold...someway, somehow...or the deal on the table was off.
So the scenario is that the buyer is ready to sign and the sellers can't come to terms.
And as the day went on...and as the texts flew back and forth, tempers were flaring. It was a hot mess.
I'm sure you're been there in your business. So close to closing a deal you've worked so hard at...
And it's just one clusterf*** after another. Excuse my French.
Here's the key: Sometimes to get the prize, it just takes a bit more hard work and a lot of patience.
Where people are involved, emotions are in play.
And when money is involved, egos are on the line.
It's definitely not the time to be a hero.
Keep your own emotions in check. And know when it's time to turn off your phone, stop engaging, and just call it a day.
And 90% of the time, it all works out in the end.
This morning, the deal closed and everyone got close to what they wanted.
