From Sardines to Five Stars

Remember the "Where's the beef?" lady in the mid '80's ad campaigns for the Wendy's fast food restaurant chain?

She's my kind of gal 🙂

Veganism just isn't in my DNA. There aren't many vegetables I don't enjoy (except for eggplant...go figure, an Armenian who doesn't like eggplant lol) but don't take away my meat.

To maintain my lean and mean physique (at least in my mind) I eat steak and/or lamb on the weekends and fish during the week...

...primarily grilled salmon.

Here's why...it's really tough to mess up.

Throw it on the grill...BOOM! Any home cook can look good when they start with a premium product.

Yeah, it comes with a price. Wild-caught top grade Salmon will set you back around $30-35/lb.

Then there's Striped Bass at $25/lb.

And Mackeral at $1/lb.

And finally you can snag a boatload of Sardines by just flashing a smile at the bait shop owner.

The best cook is the one who can take Sardines and turn them into a 5-Star meal.

UCLA basketball coach with a 27-year legacy, John Wooden is known for his simple and old school approach to practice and playing.

Even more impactful is that his words and core beliefs about what it takes to win don’t just apply to the basketball court...

...they apply to all areas of life – especially entrepreneurship.

One of my favorite Wooden quotes is this:

"Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do."

There’s always going to be something “extra” that can enhance your business or potentially boost sales.

...maybe it’s a new technology platform or a third-party application to strap onto your Infusionsoft core campaigns.

...maybe it's an "under-the-hood" lead generation tactic that some guru is pitching.

...maybe it's a shiny, spanking new website or

...possibly a complete re-branding if you're feeling particularly wild and crazy.

...or maybe a social media strategy that's trending.

Whatever IT is that you think will make your business more successful, I think Coach Wooden would encourage you to strive for those things...

...but don’t let them become an excuse for not doing your best with what you already have.

If what you have at your disposal is a bucket of Sardines, then hell...make them the best damn sardines you possibly can.

Do not let what is possible get in the way of what is necessary!

It's easy to get distracted by the latest and greatest.

Pick a direction and commit to that direction!

Make that your core focus.

To wrap this up, in the words of someone smarter than I...

“Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good."

DONE is greater than PERFECT.

So what needs to be completed today (done, not perfected) to keep you aligned with your core focus?
