I got an interesting email from someone on our list yesterday:
"Art, I see your agency builds sales funnels along with all the web pages, content, etc. Do you think websites are dead? Are funnels the new websites?
Nathan F."
Great question! Here are my thoughts...
Short answer: NO
Websites are not dead.
Funnels are a means to an end.
...that end is conversion, plain and simple.
I know some will argue that a funnel is still a website...I can live with that.
But...a funnel is a carefully planned out set of web pages with multiple steps and enticing offers to drag you further down the rabbit hole.
With one goal...convert a lead to a prospect and a prospect to an customer.
That's it!
(We could stop here, folks...but I'm feelin' chatty.)
If you own a business, you've gotta have a website.
...a place to live, a place with a permanent address.
HQ.
You can live out of a suitcase, traveling from hotel to hotel if you have to - but I doubt you'd want to call your suite with a mini-bar "home."
They're not mutually exclusive.
You mean I can't just open up a Clickfunnels account...
...throw together a few slick-looking pages,
...hook it up to Paypal,
...and woyzers - call it good?
Sure, Russell Brunson would like nothing more than for you to believe that.
Good for Russell, bad for you.
And a short-sighted plan.
You'll miss out on all the organic ways to nurture your "people" in their journey.
Think of your website as a Hub: organic (free) traffic comes in to feed off valuable free content.
And from there, you route them through funnels strategically...based on the stuff they're consuming.
If the funnels don't convert them...send them back to your website for more free content to nurture them until they're ready to buy or show an interest in another service.
Getting the idea?
I've got to throw in a real estate metaphor.
You know that being a perpetual renter and never owning any real estate is just throwing your money away. Not rocket science.
(Not saying there's not a time for renting...remember breaking out on your own and paying that first rent check? Freedom!)
Renting means you're dependent on a landlord...
...who might sell the building - and the new owners have new plans that don't involve you.
...who might default on payments and lose the property - and you're outta luck.
...who might not be johnny-on-the-spot if the plumbing breaks or the electrical system shorts.
...who might be a control freak - and you've gotta live with ugly purple walls and '70's shag carpet.
Building your most important digital assets on rented property with Clickfunnels, Facebook or a free WordPress site is just too risky.
The only crowd who says websites are dead are business owners who don't take care of theirs or use them for the marketing tool they can be.
Because they can’t see the benefits of making the investment and the effort.
How do you know your website is doing its job?
When you get on the phone with someone who's made an appointment with you and they say, "I feel like I already know you because I’ve been reading your blog and watching your videos."
That's how.
Now...need a funnel? We'll also take a look at your website and get rid of the '70's vibe you might have going on.
Later!
