Answer To The Riddle

By all the comments I got after yesterday's post...I take it that the riddle was a welcome break in the end-of-year hustle.

In case you didn't read it, here it is...with the greatly anticipated ANSWER.

RIDDLE:

You're at Highland Park Reservoir near Pittsburgh.

(Because sightseeing at the home of the mighty Steelers has been on your bucket list forever. Lol)

You have both a 5 gallon and a 3 gallon pail.

Since you're at a reservoir, you have unlimited water.

How are you gonna make the 5 gallon pail have 4 gallons using nothing more than the two pails and a hose.

There are no gallon marks on either of the pails - you have no way to measure or weigh the amount of water.

There are actually two...I warned you what would happen if I was highly caffeinated 🙂

Answer A: You fill up the five gallon pail and pour it into the 3 gallon pail. Then dump the 3 gallon pail out and pour what was left in the 5 gallon pail back into the 3 gallon pail so that now you have 2 gallons in the 3 gallon pail. Then fill the 5 gallon up and pour it into the 3 gallon to fill it up. Now you have 4 gallons in the 5 gallon pail.

Answer B: Fill up the 3 gallon pail. Pour it into the 5 gallon pail. Fill the 3 gallon jug again and fill the 5 gallon jug until it is full (leaving 1 gallon left in the 3 gallon pail.) Dump out the 5 gallon pail. Then pour your remaining 1 gallon into the 5 gallon pail...then fill the 3 gallon pail and add it to the 1 gallon in the 5 gallon pail.

Brain fried yet?

Here are my thoughts. For those of you who are left-brained and thrive on details, coding, systems...this was probably right up your alley.

You couldn't stand NOT solving it.

If you're more right-brained...you'd rather have your eyes plucked out than struggle over a dumb riddle.

It's hard to beat entrepreneur teams like Bill Gates (engineer) and Steve Ballmer (marketing) in the early days at Microsoft where they had the perfect combination of detail and creativity.

Every company needs the detail guy or gal.

The person who can't help blurting out in meetings, "But what if...?"

People, the devil really is in the details.

It's why we built CyberFunnels...we've got all the details covered.
