When I was a young broker, my Uncle Bob turned me on to listening to Tony Robbins and Zig Ziglar.
I binge listened to them daily, usually while driving.
No iPhones in those days. Not even iPods. This was the '80's...you know, the decade of big hair, neon, and the Walkman.
Good old cassette tapes for cars in those days.
And as much as I hate to say it...the late great Zig Ziglar got one thing kinda, sorta...wrong.
Feels like blasphemy to even think it.
But he was a tad bit off when he said this:
I'm all for positive thinking.
Hell, listening to Zig's mantras got me through those "wet-behind-the-ears-but-gotta-sell-dammit" years.
Then the book and movie The Secret came out with the idea that you could "think" your way to happiness and success.
This was about the time that Cheryl and I got into network marketing and the whole Law of Attraction thing blew up.
A little to Woo Woo for this Philly-turned-Pittsburghese boy.
So if you take Zig's idea of Become-Do-Have to heart...that means that if we want to have that dream retirement home, travel the world, and play golf at will...you have to first become independently wealthy.
What's wrong with this picture?
Something's got to happen first, at least in my logical mind.
What do wealthy people do?
+ They save more than they spend.
+ They invest in assets that appreciate.
+ They own a bigger library and a smaller tv.
+ They hang with doer's instead of whiners.
+ They listen more than they talk.
"Just do it."
...Make one more phone call, set one more appointment.
...Get out and meet more people (some call this networking.) Help them. You never know who they know.
...Invest in professional help like a coach, a mentor, a mastermind.
...Market. Write just one email, one Facebook ad, one postcard, etc.
...Know your numbers.
...Get your head out of your a**. My business coach likes to tell me: "Art, buddy. At times you live in your head...for an audience of one."
Everybody wants to be a hero, the guru, admired, rich, maybe even envied.
Few want to do the work.
Stay the course.
Endure.
For. As. Long. As. It. Takes.
Here's something else you should do.
